The Process
1. Hybrid Digital Modeling
Every piece begins as a digital concept. Drawing on my background in mechanical engineering, I utilize a hybrid design approach that bridges the gap between technical precision and organic form:
-
Engineering CAD: I use advanced CAD software to build the mechanical foundations of each piece, ensuring geometric precision, perfect fits for ring bands, and structural integrity.
-
Digital Sculpting (Blender & ZBrush): For the artistic details, I utilize industry-leading sculpting tools. This allows for intricate textures, fluid organic shapes, and a level of expressive detail that standard engineering software cannot achieve alone.
This synergy ensures that while a piece may look like a work of art, it is built with the rigor of a machine part.
2. Digital Prototyping
Once the hybrid model is finalized, we move to high-resolution 3D printing. We produce a physical prototype using castable wax-resin. This step acts as our "beta test," allowing us to verify the scale, ergonomics, and structural integrity of the design before it ever touches metal.
3. Materialization (Lost Wax Casting)
We transform the digital into the physical using the ancient process of lost wax casting.
-
Sterling Silver: Our .925 silver pieces are cast by burning out the resin prototype and replacing the void with molten precious metal.
-
Stainless Steel: For our industrial-inspired pendants and hardware, we utilize specialized fabrication methods to ensure the "over-engineered" durability our brand is known for.
4. Engineering the Finish
The "raw" casting is only the beginning. Each piece undergoes a rigorous multi-stage finishing process to meet our quality standards:
-
Cleanup: Removing casting gates and smoothing the surface.
-
Refinement: Hand-filing and sanding to ensure crisp edges and mechanical precision.
-
Polishing: A final buffing to achieve a mirror finish or a matte "brushed metal" look, depending on the design.
5. Made-to-Order Philosophy
By operating on a made-to-order basis, we eliminate the waste associated with mass production. Every item is created specifically for its wearer, allowing us to maintain strict quality control and focus on the technical details that make VAME jewelry stand out.
